Holiday Gift Guide

Calling all parents, grandparents, aunties/uncles, and Godmothers/Godfathers!

It is officially the season of giving! (Yes, in my family it is officially holiday music, holiday movies and holiday decorations time! None of this waiting for Thanksgiving to be over!) Do you have a special baby in your life and you want to get her a holiday gift that is age appropriate and will help her with her movement milestones? Look no further, little elf! Here I will be listing the best toys for babies from birth-5 months old (in my opinion).  Stay tuned for another post for babies 6-12 months!

Rattles

Honestly most rattles are great! Try to look for rattles that react to baby’s movement- make a sound, light up, play music, etc. Rattles that have different textures are great to develop your munchkin’s sensory system. Toys for infants should allow a cylindrical grasp (imagine how you hold a cup with all your fingers and palm touching the object). Anything that has a long and narrow part to it will help to refine that age-appropriate grasp.

Yoee Sensory/Teether Rattle

This rattle/sensory toy is something my daughter loved for many months. It is a teether, rattle, and sensory toy all built into one. If you chose one toy for an infant, this should be the one!

Rainbow Squeeze Rattle

I love this rattle! It is easy to wipe down- hello easy spit up clean up! It glows when you hold and move it. So engaging for an infant who can grasp toys intentionally- closer to 2-3 months.

Teether Rattle

This rattle encourages a cylindrical grasp. It is very light so it is easy for munchkins to start grasping and waving it around beginning at 2 months. It makes a noise when you shake it so that makes it fun for your munchkin.

Nashrio Baby Teething Toys

My daughter LOVED these teethers and I did too! Super easy to clean and I even put them in the freezer (they did not stay cold for that long, so if you’re looking for something that stays cold for a while, I would not recommend these). I clipped them onto her carseat and onesies for continuous access to a teether. These teethers have a great variety of textures which is great for your munchkin’s sensory system. They promote hands to mouth which is a great milestone that develops around 4 months.

Play Mat

I love this play mat because it grows with your little one as she develops. I can honestly say we used it for the first full year. It starts off as a playmat with lights and music and dangling toys to encourage reaching. You can then change it to a tunnel which was so fun for my little one to crawl through. It can then serve as a toy to pull up to stand. See what I mean about using it for a full year? :)

Tummy Time Play Mat

I used this playmat once my little one was rolling around and more comfortable on her tummy. It gave her more space to roll around in compared to the previous one which did not give as much space to roll.  It has various fun textures to play with and toys and a mirror attached. It folds up so you can take it outside for your munchkin. The best part about this playmat is you can throw it in the washer when it's dirty and it dries fairly quickly!

Tummy Time Mirror

If you know me or have been following me, then you know I’m all about tummy time! In my opinion, a tummy time mirror is a MUST HAVE to make tummy time fun for your munchkin.  Babies love looking at their reflection in the mirror… can you blame them?

Baby Piano

This is another great toy to use while in tummy time. This piano will encourage your munchkin to lift a hand off the floor to bat at the piano keys which is a great pre-crawling skill.

Contrast Cards

Contrast cards are great for newborns because their eyesight is not finely developed yet, so the contrast is easier to see and more engaging. I love that these cards stand up! Perfect for tummy time!
